Education and Awareness

Welcome to our Environmental Education and Awareness Training Pages.

The aim of this page and its links is to generate your interest and awareness of the environmental and social aspects of the Project. Environmental education and awareness is as important to the success of the project as Health and Safety Training. It is as important that you understand your environmental responsibilities as much as you understand your health and safety responsibilities. Our environmental impact, which may be a result of your direct actions now, may have lasting consequences for:

  • the Contract Area;
  • the people that live here;
  • the land on which the local people and the population of Iraq rely in small or large part for their livelihoods;
  • internationally designated conservation areas;
  • water resources;
  • health;
  • transboundary impacts; and,
  • many other important social, environmental and economic considerations.

These pages do not aim to educate about responsibilities such as liittering, double-sided printing, recycling, and turning off water taps and light switches, but focus on information about the areas in which we work, and why we carry out certain processes and measures to protect the environment.

Please remember that ALL of our actions influence the success of the project. If you consider that a project process is not being carried out correctly it is your responsibility to notify your line manager. Please use the STOP system and Tool Box meetings to inform management of practices that may be effecting society and the environment.

This is your site, please take an active role in environmental awareness and let us know what else you would like to see presented. Please use the feedback form, make suggestions and provide advice, and where you wish, provide constructive criticism too.
